Mito Kaoru scores double digits in Premier League
On May 19th, England first division Brighton faced Liverpool, who had won the 37th round of the Premier League, and they won a comeback 3-2 victory.
Japanese national team midfielder Mito Kaoru came on as a substitute in the 20th minute of the second half, scoring the equalising goal, achieving his first double-digit Premier League goal. Foreign media praised Mito's goal, citing an incident two minutes before the “super volley bullet.”
In just four minutes after Mito was on as a substitute, the goalkeeper fired a shot from forward Danny Welbeck, and then scored a loose ball with a left-footed volley to the goal, leading the score to a 2-2 tie. Then, in the 40th minute of the second half, Mitomo sent a pass to midfielder Matt O'Reilly on the left side, and midfielder Jack Hinshelwood pushed O'Reilly's cross, causing Brighton to turn the ball around.
Mitomo's attacks were shining on the offensive front, but just before this, Liverpool's ace Egyptian national team forward Mohamed Salah missed a big chance. In the 22nd minute of the second half, Salah picked up a ball that had slipped in front of the goal and immediately fired a shot, but was blocked by the goalkeeper and unable to score. Two minutes later, Mitomo scored a goal.
In response to this, American sports media The Athletic reported on the official X that “Mito Kaoru has made Mohamed Salah pay the price for missing out on the chance.” The British satellite broadcaster BBC also highlighted attackers from both teams, which were in a bid to light and dark position, as a turning point in the match, saying, “Immediately after Salah failed with the scoring opportunity, Mito scored Brighton's equalising goal.” (FOOTBALL ZONE Editorial Department)
