On the 28th, Real Madrid announced that Alvaro Alberoa has been appointed manager of Castilla (B-team).
For Real Madrid Castilla, who plays for Primera Federacion, a third division league league, former manager Raul Gonzalez, who had been in charge since June 2019, will step down at the end of the 2024-25 season. Alberoa, who was a club alumni like Raul and led the Hubenir A (U-19) team, was promoted internally and succeeded him.
Alberoa, now 42 years old, achieved a record of 6 goals and 15 assists for Real Madrid during his active career, making 238 official matches and 15 assists, winning a total of nine titles, including two Champions League titles. He also played for Liverpool and West Ham, and boasting a total of 56 caps, the Spanish national team won the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 and won the EURO twice. After retiring from active play in the summer of 2017, he returned to his former club Real Madrid as a coach, and led the Hubenir A since the summer of 2022.
Real Madrid has broken up with manager Carlo Ancelotti (now Brazilian national team), who has won numerous titles, and has set off a new start under manager Xavi Alonso, who led Leverkusen to the first unbeaten Bundesliga championship in history. Just like the top team, Castilla will also be headed by an alumni manager to enter the 2025-26 season.
