Japan Professional Basketball League (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Shimada Shinji, hereinafter referred to as “B.LEAGUE”) has calculated the economic ripple effects and social value of the “Resona Group B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME WEEKEND 2025 IN FUNABASHI” (hereinafter referred to as “All-Star Game”) held in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture from Saturday, January 18th to Sunday, January 19th, 2025.
As a result, the All-Star Game created an economic ripple effect of approximately 1.28 billion yen and a social value of approximately 5.2 billion yen, with the total value not shown in the financial statements being approximately 6.48 billion yen. This is an increase of approximately 1.8 times from the approximately 3.66 billion yen in B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME WEEKEND 2024 IN OKINAWA held in Okinawa the previous year, indicating that the value produced by the All-Star Game is expanding. The analysis also stated that the SROI (Social Return on Investment) on the costs invested by all stakeholders was 4.79, and that investment in the All-Star Game led to the creation of social value worth 479 yen per 100 yen. Furthermore, when we separately measured the social value of live streaming in the All-Star Game “Basket LIVE,” it turned out to be 5.17 billion yen.

B.LEAGUE signed a support company agreement with EY Japan in October 2022, and is working to resolve social issues by revitalizing local communities, which is the foundation of B.LEAGUE and its participating clubs, and encouraging economic circulation in local communities. This survey was conducted as part of the partnership, following the “DotSt B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME 2023 IN MITO” held in January 2023 and the “B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME WEEKEND 2024 IN OKINAWA” held in January 2024. The survey aims to measure and analyze the economic and social value that All-Star Game brings to the region and stakeholders, and to help in planning for growth and revitalizing sports finance.
The economic ripple effects and social value of the All-Star Game are calculated based on survey results and various data. The economic ripple effect was calculated as the sum of the direct effects that occur within the region (Funabashi City) through consumption by visitors on the day and the operating costs of the event, as well as the indirect ripple effect induced by the direct effects. In addition, there were approximately 19,000 spectators at the arena and approximately 40,000 participants at related events held around the venue, with many people visiting Funabashi City. According to a survey, the percentage of spectators attended was approximately 13%, indicating that even though the event was held in the Tokyo metropolitan area, a certain amount of demand for accommodation was generated.
Outcomes, which are indicators of social value, were selected for those who participated in the All-Star Game: 1) well-being (happiness, fun), 2) health literacy (health awareness), 3) human capital (self-growth), 4) social capital (community connection), and 5) collective identity (civic pride). We conducted a survey on these five items, and used a method of converting social values into money using a money conversion method (WTP) that investigates the consideration that consumers believe is safe to pay. Furthermore, we added the amount to ⑥ Funabashi City's brand value improvement, which was converted into money based on the status of advertising in the media.
*The total amount conversion for each item is a rounded value.
When comparing this survey with the All-Star Game in Okinawa conducted last year, WTP for Funabashi citizens' collective identity was significantly outperformed. In areas where new people, especially those around the child-rearing generation, are increasing, there is limited relationships and attachment within the community, so it is thought that the presence of sporting events and clubs in response to this is a way of connecting the region itself and the people around them, and creating an opportunity for the community to be born.
Furthermore, through a previous year survey, it was found that the social value of the All-Star Game has increased, especially among people interested in B.LEAGUE. However, the ripple effects on local residents in the host area are still limited. In the future, in order to further increase the social value of the All-Star Game, the key is how to involve “local residents living in the event area,” which have limited effects. We will be considering programs that will be held before and after the All-Star Game is being held, as well as projects that collaborate with the local community.Details of this survey areHere

Social value in live streaming is not included in the total amount of social value in the All-Star Games approximately 6.48 billion yen.
We would like to report on the results of calculations of economic ripple effects and social value at the “Risona Group B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME WEEKEND 2025 IN FUNABASHI”. This survey was conducted with the cooperation of EY Japan, and this event will mark the third time, and the largest value ever was calculated, resulting in many learnings.
In particular, a variety of content was fused, including innovative productions brought to you by LaLa arena TOKYO-BAY, which just opened in May 2024, watching basketball games, impressive performances by famous artists, regional revitalization events in collaboration with Funabashi City, and public viewing that shares the excitement, creating a sense of unity and enthusiasm inside and outside the venue.
Furthermore, the enormous cooperation of the citizens and many stakeholders who have been deeply rooted in the Chiba Jets community has been a major driving force behind this event.
The tournament hosted a variety of nearby events in three locations, including a 3×3 basketball court, food zone, and live performance area, and many people attended the event outside of watching the game, leading to a socioeconomic effect that was significantly greater than before. B.LEAGUE will continue to take advantage of the learnings gained from this survey together with EY Japan to continue to challenge efforts to revitalize regional revitalization and social values with clubs across the country.
We would like to express our gratitude to all involved in the “Risona Group B.LEAGUE ALL-STAR GAME WEEKEND 2025 IN FUNABASHI” for their cooperation in investigating economic and social values. This year marks the third time this year, this survey has provided many insights from the differences in the conditions in the venues with Mito and Okinawa so far, as well as changes in the environment of B.LEAGUE and Japanese basketball.
In particular, the event at “LaLa arena TOKYO-BAY,” which opened in May 2024, allowed for the fusion of Chiba Jets Funabashi, which led B.LEAGUE since its inception, and it could be said that it represented the evolution of the town where B.LEAGUE is located. It truly represents the arena and content functioning as real media for the local area.
