Leicester City star Hamza Choudhury showed his frustration with Portsmouth fans during the crucial Championship relegation match. The Foxes went into the game knowing that a win was needed to give them hope of staving off a second relegation in two seasons.
But Gary Rowett’s team found themselves 1-0 down when Ibane Bowat put Portsmouth ahead in the 63rd minute.
In an attempt to get back into the game, Rowett turned to his substitutes bench. Choudhury was replaced by Jordan James, who is coming back from injury.
As Choudhury was making his way off the pitch he appeared to be involved in a spat with the home fans. He appeared to not like what one specific fan said.
When the referee came over, he appeared to gesture towards the official, leading to him being shown a yellow card. Choudhury then shoved off a Leicester coach, and continued shouting towards the crowd as he sat down on the bench.
Leicester may have felt frustrated, feeling that they should have had a penalty in the opening stages of the game. The decisive goal also appeared to come off the scorer’s hand, but both with no VAR in operation in the Championship, both decisions stood.
Despite needing a goal, Leicester were unable to find an answer to the opening goal to virtually condemn them to relegation to League One, 10 years on from winning the Premier League title. The loss leaves them five points adrift of safety, although West Brom in 21st position have a game in hand.
The win moves Portsmouth up to 18th position in the table, 10 points clear of Leicester in 23rd place.
