Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has hit back at a question in his pre-match press conference that asked whether there was still belief in his team, heading into the final few games of the season. The Blues boss says he’s made it clear what he expects from his players as pressure starts to build on the shoulders of the head coach.
The 41-year-old replaced Enzo Maresca in the Stamford Bridge dugout earlier this year and made a bright start to life in London. However, Rosenior has picked up just 11 wins from his opening 21 matches in charge, with only one of those coming in Chelsea’s last six games.
Speaking at his Chelsea press conference, Rosenior said: “We’re not in a good place in terms of the results. In terms of myself, I need to give energy to the team.
“We’ve had some really good conversations and training sessions. In these situations, you find out a lot about yourself.”
Defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, and a fallout with Enzo Fernandez has heightened speculation around Rosenior’s future at the club, but he said: “The noise is not anything you can control. The things you can control is our group, our spirit – which I don’t think has ever been in question.
“You focus on what you can control, which is our performance. You make sure the attitude, the energy and the application to the game is right. I expect a good performance on Saturday.”
Rosenior was pressed on what he wants to see from Chelsea, after their collapse against Manchester City at the weekend. The Blues are now four points off the Champions League places and have an uphill battle on their hands.
“What I want to see is the team react well after conceding the first goal, not to crumble,” Rosenior said. “We’re not as far away as what it probably feels like.
“Of course they still believe, of course we still believe. I don’t know why you would ask that question, I don’t know why you would.”
